    Description:

      Abstract: This grid represents the hydraulic head distribution in the Wabiskaw hydrostratigraphic unit (HSU). It is a result of a geostatistical model which was constructed using publicly available data from the following sources:

1.Pressure data from drillstem tests from oil and gas wells

2.Water-level data from monitoring wells compiled from environmental impact assessments

The hydraulic head distribution was mapped at a regional scale using many years of data, thus providing a general indication of regional groundwater flow within the unit rather than site-specific values.

      Purpose: To provide a regional hydraulic head surface for the Wabiskaw HSU

    Attribute_Accuracy_Report: The following statistics describes the accuracy of the geostatistical layer used to create the final grid:

Mean error = -0.38 m

Root mean square error = 16.3 m

Mean standardized error = -0.005 m

Root mean square standardized = 0.952

Average standard error - 17.1 m

The root mean square error of the final smoothed grid is 7.6 m.

  Logical_Consistency_Report: Grid cell spacing is 500 m by 500 m. Grid cells with no data are assigned the value -9999.

  Completeness_Report: The final hydraulic head grid covers the extent of the Wabiskaw HSU as modelled in the Geological Framework of Alberta, Version 3. In addition, the final grid was clipped to the spatial extent of data.

The grid was smoothed using focal statistics which calculates for each input cell location a statistic of the values within a specified neighbourhood around it, in this case a 3 cell by 3 cell rectangle. Smoothing the surface used the average cell value.

   Process_Description: Selection criteria and the final data set used for interpolation of this grid are documented in the metadata for AGS DIG 2024-0006.

Step 1 (Modelling the surface): An empirical Bayesian kriging algorithm was used in the Esri ArcMap 10.8 Geostatistical Analyst extension to interpolate the hydraulic head values and create a grid of the head surface of the Wabiskaw HSU.
