    Description
Abstract: This digital data release contains a targeted subset of mineral occurrences from the Mineral Occurrences of Alberta dataset (AGS Digital Data 2025-0009), focusing on selected producers, past producers, and exploration projects deemed significant in scope and development. These occurrences are chosen for their current or historical ore-grade extraction, or advanced stage mineral exploration. Producers are defined as active sites extracting ore-grade material—such as mines, quarries, solution wells, plants, and industrial pits. Past producers refer to sites where ore-grade material has historically been extracted. Featured exploration projects are those with advanced development, active mineral agreements, and substantial geological data. Projects were updated in early 2025 through permit verification and company research, ensuring accuracy and relevance. The selection was made to support high-level visualization on the Minerals of Alberta map, with a tabulated overview provided for reference. All listed occurrences remain part of the comprehensive provincial dataset, which offers additional context and technical details. Mineral occurrences are compiled from a variety of sources including government reports, government data, mineral assessment reports, and technical industry reports.

This work was completed under the Mineral Grant provided by the Government of Alberta on June 22, 2021.
Purpose: To highlight current producers, past producers, and exploration projects deemed significant in scope and development for the Minerals of Alberta Map.

  Attribute_Accuracy
Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Most attributes (e.g., company, commodity, mine type, resources, references) for this dataset were extracted from government data and reports, technical industry reports, academic papers, and mineral assessment reports. As such, no systematic independent verification took place to confirm the accuracy of these attributes. Because of the limited data about the genesis of most metallic occurrences in the province, the deposit type classification used was largely based on metal association and host rock of the occurrence. Efforts were made to relate every mineral occurrence to a deposit type; however, errors may have occurred due to insufficient data, particularly with metallic minerals.
Logical_Consistency_Report: The data was checked for spatial uniqueness. Despite being compiled from different sources, the attribute data for each selected occurrence (producer, past producer, or exploration project) were verified and each field was filled with non-null values where possible. Because of the limited data about the genesis of most metallic occurrences in the province, the deposit type classification used was largely based on metal association and host rock of the occurrence.
Completeness_Report: The occurrences for this work were chosen from a more comprehensive mineral occurrences dataset and do not reflect every occurrence in the province. Most producers were extracted from government data; however, some commodity types could not be found in government data (e.g., ammolite) and other publications were used to complete the list of producers. The selection of past producers may not be complete as older past producers may not have been recorded in government reports or data. The selection of exploration projects is not comprehensive, as AGS staff conducted a subjective assessment of projects that have a higher level of exploration and development, with an active mineral agreement.

References for each project are cited in the table in an abbreviated format. The full reference for each citation is included with this publication in a separate file.
  Positional_Accuracy
    Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Location information of mineral occurrences for this work was derived from a multitude of sources, including government data, technical industry reports, mineral assessment reports, and academic papers. As such, the horizontal positional accuracy varies greatly depending on the original source of the data. Users are encouraged to review the source reference(s) for each occurrence to assess positional accuracy. Additionally, each occurrence may represent multiple sample locations, drillholes, open pits, etc. The producer and past producer locations represent the approximate centroid of the quarry or mine. Past producer locations were derived from historical datasets that were found to be up to 1000 m away from the true location. Some of these locations were corrected but accuracy/true location for others was unknown. Therefore, the estimated accuracy of these point locations is +/- 1000 metres.
    Vertical_Positional_Accuracy
Vertical_Positional_Accuracy_Report: This dataset does not include attributes measured or described in the vertical dimension.
