Description:
Abstract:
This GIS dataset depicts the Foothills Erratics Train in Southwestern Alberta, Canada (GIS data, point features). The erratics train is composed of a distinctive type of glacially transported erratic, whose distribution might relate to coalescence of the Laurentide and Cordilleran Ice Sheets. These data were compiled from published sources; no attempt was made to verify their accuracy. These data comprise the point features to accompany Alberta Geological Survey Map 604, Glacial Landforms of Alberta, Canada. The data were created in geodatabase format and output for public distribution in shapefile format.
Purpose: For query and analysis of the Glacial Landforms of Alberta, Canada. In GIS format.

Data Quality Information:
Logical Consistency Report: Data was visually examined in ArcGIS to confirm locations were consistent with source publications.
Completeness Report:
Only published sources were used for this compilation; the main sources primarily worked in the southern portion of the coverage area (Stalker 1956 and Boydell 1972), potentially giving the impression there are more erratics in those areas.
Positional Accuracy:
Horizontal Positional Accuracy:
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report: Accuracy of the data is dependant on the primary sources, and is estimated to be +/- 5 km.

Process Step:
Process Description:

Data was derived from these sources:

Stalker 1956: This bulletin includes a paper map that was scanned. The map was georeferenced in ArcGIS, then the points were digitized.

Boydell 1972: Locations reported in Appendix D were entered into Excel, then plotted in ArcGIS.

Roed 1975: Figure 1 was georeferenced in ArcGIS, then the points digitized.

Jackson et al. 2008: Figure 5 was georeferenced in ArcGIS, then the points digitized.

Tharin 1969: Figure 1 was georeferenced in ArcGIS, and points in the Athabasca valley were digitized. Other points were not included because they are apparently covered in more detail by other reports cited.

For all of these sources:

Data was visually examined in ArcGIS to confirm locations were consistent with source publications, but sites were not field checked.
